This abbreviated family tree shows the descendants of John BERRY and Sarah HARRIS, down to myself.
Walter Harris BERRY born 1836, was apprenticed as a ropemaker to Joseph GREEN of Brixham. By 1861 he was employed in this trade at the Devonport Dockyard. While there he met Louisa RUNDLE, the daughter of a Cornish schooner captain. They were married at Devonport in 1862, where their first children were born. They moved to London, probably as a result of the greatly reduced need for rope in the Navy with the introduction of steam power. Louisa died in about 1896 when their youngest child, my grandfather, was aged 12.
Henry BERRY born 1884, married Ethel SPICE the daughter of a market gardener who had moved to London from Kent. Their daughter Betty BERRY married George Mason HILLS of Sheffield.
